Waka Day!

Today Philip Smith visited us and told us all about his voyages on the Te Matau e Maui (waka) around the pacific islands.  He told us how he uses the stars to guide him and his crew.  We learnt about the Maori legend and how Maui pulled up the North Island of New Zealand.
We made our own waka with the help of some wonderful parents.  Here are some photos of us making our waka.

Swimming

At Clive School there is a pool.  Every day we go for a swim.  It is amazing.  Everybody goes for a swim.  I am in the stingray group.  When I go under the water it kind of feels like bubbles.

We have a pool at our school and my class and I like playing in it.  We like playing in the deep end.  We like it in the pool and I’m in the seahorses.

I love swimming.  I love jumping in the pool.  I am in the seahorses.  I am not good at using a flutter board on my back.  I am good at diving in like a teapot.

At Clive School we had swimming.  I was in the stingrays.  I felt happy.  I’m in the deep end.  I like swimming on my back.  I don’t like swimming on my front.  It feels cold.

I can learn to swim.

At Clive School we go swimming.  It is lovely.  We hop in when the teacher says.  I like diving in the deep end.  The pool is so big and so hot.  I’m in the dolphin group.

Elmer

We have been reading the story "Elmer".  We have learnt that we are all different and that being different is a GOOD thing.  Here are our creative and very different elephants and some of the stories we wrote about Elmer.

Elmer was shaking the tree.  He shook and shook.  The berries were elephant colour.

I went hunting with Josh and we shot Elmer.  Victory!

One night Elmer couldn’t sleep.  He was tired of being different.

Elmer was a colourful elephant.  He made the other elephants laugh.
