Science Term 1

In Room 5 we have undertaken a variety of science experiments. Here are some examples of our investigations.

Billowing Balloons. We mixed vinegar and baking soda in a bottle. We put a balloon over top of the bottle. The mixture reacted and created a gas that then blew up the balloon!!

Here we are making our own Fire Extinguisher. In a bottle we mixed vinegar and baking soda, it created a gas called carbon dioxide. The gas blew out the candles.

Milk on the Move. In this experiment we used whole milk, which has lots of fat in it. Added food colouring and dish liquid. The dish liquid breaks down the fat in the milk and causes the mixture to twirl  and swirl around together.

We have been learning about our digestive system.  Here are some of our stories that let you know how much we have learnt.

The teeth chomp me up.  The salvia (the spit) makes me soft.  The oesophagus is a long tube.  The stomach is a squishy bag.  The small intestine is long.  The nutrients come out.  The small intestines are 6 metres long.  The large intestines are wider than the small intestines.  The waste comes out of your bottom.

The teeth chomp me up.  The tongue pushed me back.  I went down the oesophagus to the stomach.  There was special juices.  The walls opened and closed.  Then I went into the small intestines.  There is nutrients that stay in and the waste comes out to the toilet and then the sewer.

The food is going down my digestive system.  I am going in the mouth.  The teeth chew me up. I am going down the oesophagus.  I am in the stomach.  I am getting mashed up.  There are special juices.  I am in the small intestine.  The good food comes out and the bad food comes out of my large intestine.  I am in the large intestine.  I go solid.  The waste came out of the rectum.  The waste goes into the toilet.

The food goes into your mouth.  It goes down the oesophagus.  It goes into the stomach.  The stomach is a stretchy bag.  Then it goes into the small intestine.  It is a skinny tube.  Then it comes into the large intestine which is a fat tube.  Then it is in the rectum that is attached to your bottom.
